In honor of Fire Prevention Week, the first grade classes walked to the Seneca Fire Station on October 12. While at the station, fire fighters taught about fire prevention and demonstrated some of the equipment fire fighters use. The children learned what to do if there is a fire in their house by getting low and getting out of the "Smoke-house" where pretend smoke was released so the children could see how it rises in a fire. They also learned the importance of having a family meeting place and fire drills at home. Students should know their address in order to call 911 in an emergency. Finally, the students appreciated all the take-home items they were given to share with their families and help everyone learn about fire safety.
